David Thompson: The Sky Walking Star Who Could Have Been a Legend

Early Life and Professional Career

David O'Neil Thompson was born on July 13, 1954, and his exceptional talent on the basketball court quickly became evident. He was drafted first overall by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1975 NBA Draft and began his professional career with the Denver Nuggets in the ABA.

Rookie of the Year and ABA Stardom

Thompson made an immediate impact in the ABA, earning the Rookie of the Year award in 1976. He played nine seasons in the ABA and NBA, all with the Denver Nuggets, and became one of the league's most prolific scorers and high-flying performers.

"Sky Walker" and Unfulfilled Potential

Standing tall at 6'4", Thompson was known as the "Sky Walker" for his incredible leaping ability and electrifying dunks. Despite his undeniable talent, injuries and personal challenges hindered his ability to reach his full potential. Many believe that if not for these obstacles, he could have become one of the greatest players in NBA history.
